The three core ways to learn Guts & Blackpowder are Objective, Endless, and Holdout. Objective asks a team to complete a fixed campaign route. Endless asks the team to survive increasingly difficult waves until everyone is dead. Holdout combines repeated attacks with a map-specific goal such as building, defending sectors, or reaching a final escape. The same class and weapon can feel completely different when the win condition changes.

Campaign route
Objective
Win: complete ordered tasks and reach the map's finish.
Pressure: transitions, scripted holdouts, limited respawn points.
Best for: map learning and one-life badges.

Endless
Win: there is no final victory; survive as many waves as possible.
Pressure: new enemy types, scaling health, formation fatigue.
Best for: defense practice and long-run badge progress.

Holdout
Win: survive while completing the map-specific condition.
Pressure: objective work competes with defensive staffing.
Best for: coordinated roles and zone management.

Objective campaigns use stable prompt order, but each completed task can open a spawn route, begin a timed defense, move the team into a tighter space, or activate a respawn point. The current prompt is therefore a tactical warning, not only a checklist. On PC, C can repeat the prompt and highlight relevant items in supported objectives.
At least one player must reach the supported completion state for a campaign victory. One-life badges add a personal layer: dying and returning at a checkpoint may let the team win while invalidating your badge attempt. Use the Objective mode guide for a full preparation loop and the Maps hub for route-specific steps.
Endless tests recovery
Endless begins with ordinary pressure and adds special enemies as waves rise. Current community documentation places Runners first, followed later by Bombers, Sapper Zombies, Cuirassier Zombies, and Igniters. Exact wave details are update-sensitive, but the durable lesson is that the threat mix expands. A defense built only for slow Shamblers will eventually fail.
Dead players return at wave transitions, living players receive limited recovery, and supported consumables or supplies refresh on defined schedules. Those mechanics encourage role rotation and long-term resource thinking. A single dangerous wave does not need to be solved by spending every grenade, ability, and medical resource at once.
Holdout divides attention
Holdout is not simply Endless with a shorter timer. Berezina progresses through bridge work. Saint Petersburg has a fixed ten-wave official survival badge. Trafalgar House uses sectors and an official six-wave badge, with another badge for protecting all four zones. The player who understands the objective may be more important than the player with the highest kill count.
Assign objective workers and lane defenders before starting the event. Rotate when a player is injured or out of supplies. A surviving final player can secure the team result in supported situations, so late-round communication should focus on giving that player room and information rather than crowding their path with desperate respawn advice.
Class value changes by mode
Infantry is a stable generalist in every core mode. Sapper value rises when the team can predict a defensive line, but falls when moving tasks make static construction a trap. Surgeon becomes more important when a long route or many waves create attrition. Chaplain prevents infection from turning a successful defense into delayed losses. Seaman benefits from packed approaches, Musician from a stable formation, and Officer from a team ready to use a coordinated push.
This makes class tier lists conditional. A route-aware Sapper can be decisive in a Holdout and less useful during a fast transition. A Seaman can clear an Endless lane and struggle to cover scattered Objective interactions. Use the Classes hub to pick the role that answers the mode’s failure condition.
Weapon value changes by mode
Objective rewards flexibility. One route may include an open lane, a cramped interior, an item carry, and a final holdout. Endless rewards repeatable lane control and safe reload coverage. Holdout rewards the same defense while forcing some players away from the line to work on the objective.
Never spend a shot without considering the next threat. A Musket shot that removes a Bomber before it reaches the barricade may be more valuable than several ordinary kills. A crowd weapon is strongest when teammates preserve its lane. A long melee is useful only if the player has space to finish the action safely. The Weapons hub separates these jobs from volatile numerical rankings.
Respawn and badge planning
Respawn rules are mode- and map-specific. Objective uses map checkpoints rather than a universal every-wave return. Endless normally brings eligible players back between waves. Holdout offers interval-based returns but the exact structure differs by map. Never assume a teammate will immediately return; protect the remaining formation until the visible transition occurs.
Official badge text is the safest way to plan achievements. Old Guard progress requires staying alive for 35 Endless rounds without restarting, while named campaign badges require one-life Objective completions. Saint Petersburg and Trafalgar House badges explicitly identify Holdout and their wave totals. The Badges hub records those conditions without using Roblox award percentages as a fake drop rate.
Mode selection by goal
Choose Objective when you want a clear route, map badge, or cooperative story sequence. Choose Endless when you want to practice enemy cues, fortification, and long-term team recovery. Choose Holdout when your group can split between defense and a persistent task. Seasonal Boss, event, PvP, Siege, Hardcore, and private-server variants exist or are community documented, but they are not substitutes for understanding the three public core loops.
Hardcore modifies difficulty and reward behavior rather than replacing the map’s underlying objective. Do not use Hardcore reward values or enemy behavior as if they apply to a standard server. Seasonal availability also needs a live check; an official badge can remain visible when a map is not currently in the vote.
Common mode mistakes
- Objective: activating the next step before support roles reach the group.
- Objective: assuming a checkpoint respawn preserves a one-life badge attempt.
- Endless: building only for Shamblers and ignoring later special-enemy counters.
- Endless: changing class without covering the role that disappears.
- Holdout: putting every player on defense while the objective stops progressing.
- Holdout: abandoning a sector or construction task without naming a replacement.
- Any mode: treating a Bomber as an ordinary target when teammates are inside its blast area.
Verification and current limits
Official Roblox badges verify many mode names and specific win conditions. Detailed respawn behavior, wave introductions, map pools, supplies, and balance values are community documented and were checked October 30, 2026. The current client remains authoritative for a selected map, difficulty modifier, event availability, and visible prompt. These guides prioritize actions that remain useful when a number changes: prepare before a trigger, cover objective workers, keep a retreat lane, and reserve tools for special enemies.
