Guts & Blackpowder Moss Ironworks Walkthrough

Complete Moss Ironworks from the palisade and hospital through the cannon cart, foundry cycles, swivel guns, and log-raft escape.

Moss Ironworks is an Objective campaign with a long mechanical route: burn a palisade, release survivors, use a crowbar, build a rope crossing with a sled cannon, fill and fire a resource cart, operate the ironworks, and escape by raft. The official Forged In Fire badge requires escaping in one life. Counter-Battery Fire requires being hit by the recoiling cannon cart, so attempt that hazard separately from a no-death run.

Burn the palisade

Leave the starting house and search the town for kindling. Current community documentation lists seven required pieces with extra pieces placed in the area. Deliver the kindling to the palisade, use a spare cartridge as the fire starter, and use an unloaded flintlock to create the spark. The Air Rifle is not a gunpowder weapon and is not documented as a valid spark source.

Assign search directions while other players guard the street. Do not have the entire team inspect the same building. Reload or prepare another valid firearm after the spark so the formation is not empty when the barrier opens.

Hospital, key, and crowbar route

Continue into the bank building used as a field hospital. Go to the basement, find the key, and open the cell for the waiting survivors. Pry the board from the window and move down to the street.

The crowbar can appear in one of several rooms in a nearby house according to current documentation. Find it and clear the barricaded door; Pickaxe is also documented as useful for this interaction. Search the supply floor, then leave through the back and cross the next barrier. Keep a rear guard because interior searches split attention.

Sled cannon and rope crossing

Push the sled cannon into position and load the required empty charge. Retrieve the chandelier from the nearby house, load it into the cannon, attach the rope, and fire. Take the slack and secure the other end to create the crossing over the rapids.

Only objective workers should crowd the cannon. Everyone else watches the street and keeps Bombers away from the mechanism. Wait for the prompt before changing steps; dismounting or firing at the wrong moment can create confusion even when the route can recover.

Fill and push the cannon cart

Collect coal and iron into the cart. Current community documentation records 15 coal and 20 iron, but treat the live objective counter as authoritative if the map changes. Push the cart uphill, load and fire its cannon to break the barricade, then clear its path for the recoil.

The cart rolls backward after firing and can hit players. That interaction is the official Counter-Battery Fire condition, but it can ruin Forged In Fire. Stand clear unless you have deliberately assigned a hazard attempt. After the shot, push the cart uphill again and enter the ironworks.

Restore the ironworks

Meet the Ironworker and prepare the foundry sequence. Break the ice blocking the water wheel, then deliver the collected resources into the furnace. Keep distance from the furnace because current route documentation identifies it as a fire hazard.

The process repeats through heating and casting cycles while the team holds the area. Sappers should create a retreat lane rather than sealing the work route. Infantry and Seaman watch approaches; Surgeons use a protected corner. Current documentation also identifies scripted armored pressure in the finale, so keep armor-aware counters ready.

Quench and carry swivel guns

After casting, use Water Buckets from the nearby river to quench the swivel guns. The current route describes two splashes per gun, but follow the live prompt. The guns can be carried toward the escape for a documented Franc bonus; they are not usable weapons in this sequence.

Do not lose the run for an optional bonus. If the formation is collapsing, prioritize survival and the raft. One carried gun per player is the documented limit, and exact bonus values are update-sensitive.

Board the log raft

Hold until the Ironworker arrives with the log raft, then board. Avoid jumping while the raft moves; community guidance warns that momentum and mobile lag can throw players off. The map completes when the survivors escape.

For Forged In Fire, stay alive from the beginning through the escape. If you respawn, help finish the run but plan another clean attempt. Keep Counter-Battery Fire for a separate session.

Common failures

  • Searching one room as a group and leaving the street undefended.
  • Trying to spark the palisade with an unsupported or loaded weapon state.
  • Losing the crowbar carrier inside the house.
  • Standing in front of the cannon cart after firing.
  • Entering the furnace hazard while delivering materials.
  • Carrying optional swivel guns while the defense is failing.
  • Jumping or lingering off the raft during the final escape.

Verification

Forged In Fire and Counter-Battery Fire are Official badge conditions. The route, counts, and foundry sequence are Community reported/corroborated from the current Wiki checked October 30, 2026. Exact prompts, item locations, timers, enemy events, Franc bonuses, and Hardcore behavior need current in-game testing.
