Guts & Blackpowder Holdout Mode Guide

Learn Guts & Blackpowder Holdout mode: split objective and defense roles, manage waves, recover between attacks, and finish map-specific goals.

Holdout combines repeated zombie attacks with a persistent map objective. It resembles Endless because pressure arrives in waves, but a team cannot succeed by defending forever. Someone must build, repair, protect sectors, or complete the specific task while the rest keep the work area alive. The key skill is deciding how many players the objective needs without weakening the defensive line beyond recovery.

Identify the map’s real win condition

Read the opening prompt and the objective display before choosing positions. Holdout maps do not all use the same task. Berezina is documented around bridge progress, Saint Petersburg has an official badge for surviving all ten waves, and Trafalgar House has an official six-wave completion badge plus a separate condition for protecting all four zones.

Those examples should not be turned into a universal rule. Follow the current map’s markers, counters, and interaction prompts. If the objective stops moving, check whether a worker is missing, a sector has fallen, or a required phase must finish before more progress is possible.

Split workers and defenders

Assign objective workers by name or role before the first major attack. One primary worker and one nearby replacement are usually easier to protect than a crowd. Everyone else covers the approaches and keeps special enemies away from the interaction area. If an objective requires several simultaneous positions, announce who owns each one.

Workers should not silently leave to chase kills. Defenders should not abandon the line because a progress bar looks slow. When injury, death, or supplies force a rotation, name the replacement. A task with no owner can sit unfinished even while the team’s kill count rises.

Build around the objective

The defensive position must support the task, not merely offer the most convenient choke point. Place Sapper structures where they delay enemies before those enemies reach workers. Preserve paths between the task, supplies, and fallback area. Avoid barricades that make the objective harder to access or trap a player inside a sector that may be lost.

Create layers. The front line slows the wave, a middle position covers the workers, and a fallback gives survivors somewhere to rebuild. If every defense occupies one narrow square, a Bomber or fire hazard can remove the entire plan at once.

Control waves without forgetting progress

Use the first seconds of a wave to locate fast or explosive threats. Call Runners before they reach workers and keep Bombers away from the construction or defense cluster. Cuirassiers need space and coordinated fire. Ordinary Shamblers still matter, but they should not pull the team away from the objective lane.

During a safe lull, check progress before searching for extra enemies. Some Holdout tasks advance only through interaction, construction, or maintained control. A defender can swap with a worker when reloading or low on supplies, keeping both responsibilities active instead of pausing the whole team.

Use classes for sustained defense

Sapper is especially useful when the map provides predictable approaches and enough time to maintain structures. Infantry offers flexible coverage and can escort workers between positions. Seaman clears packed lanes but needs teammates to preserve a clean firing angle. Officer value rises when the group is ready to turn a coordinated ability into space for repairs or objective progress.

Surgeon manages accumulated damage across several waves. Chaplain prevents infection-related attrition from ending an otherwise stable defense. Musician supports a formation that stays close, but cannot compensate for an unstaffed objective. Choose classes based on the current failure point rather than a universal tier list.

Recover at every interval

Holdout provides map-specific breaks, returns, or supply opportunities. Use the visible phase transition rather than assuming every map follows the same respawn timer. The living formation must remain safe until the game confirms that eligible teammates are back.

At each interval, count roles, heal, reload, repair, gather supported supplies, and inspect objective status. Announce which sector or lane needs attention next. If the team lost a specialist, decide whether another player should change class at the next allowed moment or whether the formation can adapt without it.

Protect badge conditions

Official Roblox badge text is the best checklist for named Holdout achievements. Dur à Cuire requires surviving all ten waves of Saint Petersburg in Holdout. Glory to the Survivors requires winning all six waves of Trafalgar House. Search and Rescue adds the condition that the four zones must not be lost.

Do not infer hidden rules from award percentages or community nicknames. Confirm the official description, then watch the live counters. If a badge requires every zone, treat a lost zone as a failed personal attempt even if the remaining team can still reach a general completion state.

Respond when the plan breaks

If the main line falls, workers should stop interacting and move through the prepared retreat. Defenders cover that movement rather than dying beside an unrecoverable structure. Rebuild a shorter line around the surviving task area. A final living player may still be able to secure a supported completion, but the team should give that player clear information instead of flooding chat with conflicting directions.

If progress is too slow, move one defender to the task only after another player covers their lane. If defense is failing, pause optional objective work and stabilize. Holdout is a repeated balance: progress when the line is safe, defend when pressure is high, and never let either responsibility disappear without a call.

Holdout checklist

  • Read the exact map objective and counters before building.
  • Assign primary workers, replacements, lanes, and sectors.
  • Keep fortifications clear of the objective and escape paths.
  • Spot Runners, Bombers, and heavy threats before they reach workers.
  • Rotate players instead of leaving a responsibility empty.
  • Use every interval to heal, reload, repair, and review progress.
  • Check official badge text for wave and zone requirements.

The Saint Petersburg and Trafalgar House conditions above are verified by official Roblox badge descriptions checked October 30, 2026. Detailed bridge behavior, respawn intervals, enemy counts, construction rates, and map availability are update-sensitive and should be confirmed in the current client.
